Summer of Service to Seniors
This summer, AARP Foundation is leading a Summer of Service to SeniorsSM, a series of opportunities around the country to shine a spotlight on food insecurity and senior poverty and show how volunteer service can make a real difference. The Foundation has so far traveled to Memphis, Denver and the Twin Cities; between the three events, more than 6,000 volunteers packed over 1.5 million meals for struggling older adults in the local region.
The last event of the season will take place on the National Mall in Washington on Sunday, September 10, and Monday, September 11. If you will be in the Washington, D.C., area, please join us! Just one hour of your time provides 200 meals for hungry seniors in the D.C. metro region. Registration is ongoing at mealpackchallenge.org.
The Summer of Service to Seniors is just one piece of AARP Foundation’s larger effort to increase economic opportunities and social connections that help prevent and reduce senior poverty.
